Note: Manuscripts are initially examined by editorial staff and are sent by the Editor to independent reviewers who are not informed of the identity of the author(s). When publication in the article's original form is not recommended, the reviewers' comments (without the identity of the reviewer being disclosed) may be passed to the corresponding author and may include suggested revisions. Manuscript not approved for publication will not be returned, in any format.

Following the invitation to submit a revised version of your manuscript, please provide the following information. Always include your manuscript reference number in all correspondence.

Production policy and timelines

After the Editor accepts the article for publication the editorial staff copyedits your manuscript, they will return it to you for review. This will be the final stage at which you may make content changes. Later the editorial staff will send you one set of galley proofs, at which time you will have 48 hours to mark any typographical errors. If you do not respond by fax, email, or telephone within 48 hours the editors will assume acceptance of the galley, on your part and proceed with the publication process. We may not be able to incorporate your corrections into the printed version of your manuscript after failure to respond to proofreading request, please ensure that you frequently visit your author home page to access the location of your manuscript, or contact the Title Operations Coordinator at submissions@koedoe.co.za

OpenJournals Publishing is an author pays publisher, which supports our underlying ethos to make research freely available to the public to support a greater global exchange of knowledge.

In an endeavour to enhance their support for conservation globally, SANParks have implemented a sponsorship system for all authors submitting to Koedoe.

Authors can submit articles without incurring any cost towards publication if the article falls within the sponsorship policy.

Policy
SANParks sponsors articles under the following conditions:
1. Article falls within the journal’s focus area
2. Article conforms to the instructions to authors in terms of length and other requirements
3. The length of the article is less than or equal to 10 pages in its published format. [Note: SANParks will sponsor the first 10 output pages of the manuscript, and authors will be billed for each page thereafter.]

The decision to hold back the SANParks sponsorship is at the discretion of the Editorial Board and can be acted upon if the submission does not fall within the conditions. Funding for these articles will be retrieved from the author.

Publishing with open access is not without costs. OpenJournals Publishing defrays those costs from Article Processing Fees, because we do not have subscription charges for our research content, believing instead that immediate, world-wide, barrier-free, open access to the full text of research articles is in the best interests of the scientific community and the public at large.

The submitting author is responsible for the payment of the Article Processing Fees. The submitting author must confirm at the time of submission that they will organise payment should the article be accepted for publication. This responsibility may not be delegated to any third party unless agreed to by the publisher.

Following peer review, once a manuscript has received editorial acceptance in principle, the Article Processing Fees become payable, and formatting checks (copyediting, layout editing and proofreading) on the manuscript will commence. Once these are completed, and full payment of the Article Processing Fees has been received, the article will be published.

The Article Processing Fees are due within a maximum of 30 days of the manuscript receiving editorial acceptance in principle. Payment can be made by credit card payment, electronic funds transfer or check.

Prompt payment is advised, as the article will not be published until full payment is received. If payment is made by electronic funds transfer from a non-South African bank account, the submitting author will be responsible for any bank transfer charges at the time of the transaction. In all cases a receipt will be sent by email once payment has been received.

Fees may be waived if authors have insufficient funds, as OJP does not want fees to prevent the publication of worthy work. For further information contact info@openjournals.net

Note: Please ensure that the article ID [reference] number is included in the subject of your email correspondence.
